It can be so hard to find great places to stay when you have (small) kids without feeling like a compromise for the adults. Luckily, Europe has lots of amazing child-friendly hotels that are designed for families and where holidays with the kids will feel like a vacation for all of you. It’s hard to narrow it down, but here are some of my favorites – as a travel consultant and a mom of 2:

Martinhal Sagres Family Resort – Algarve (Portugal)

One of Portugal’s best family resorts, set within a protected natural park. Besides the hotel rooms, you can also stay at one of the larger villas (some come with a private pool). As a family with kids (from babies to teens), you will feel so at ease here. Not often do you find a hotel where even small babies are taken care of, but Martinhal also offers a nursery for babies as of 6 months old and complimentary baby equipment.

Nearest international airport: Faro (1h30 drive)

Familyhotel Sonnwies – Dolomites (Italy)

A family wellness hotel featuring an organic farm that makes it a great place to stay for kids of all ages. Think of large suites that comfortably accommodate the entire family and additional services like babysitting, miniclub, nature programs for teenagers and even a farmhouse.

Nearest international airport: Milan Bergamo (3h30 drive) or Milan Linate (4h drive)

Sani Resort – Kassandria (Greece)

Sani Resort compromises five different properties but only at Porto Sani, Sani Beach and Sani Club kids stay for free. From nanny services, nursery, kids club and beachside babysitting, to complimentary child equipment and adventurous activities for teens, you can be sure that your kids will be happy and entertained. There’s even a Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre!

Naturhotel Forsthofgut – Leogang (Austria)

This luxury family hotel is popular with families looking for a ski-out ski-in holiday, either with the kids or the parents can take advantage of the childcare service in the meantime. From complimentary baby equipment to the kids club (from 2-14 years old), there’s something for everyone here. The property features an on-site farm, art studio, film screening space, horse riding school, parent-yoga lessons and much more. This is a place your kids will not want to leave!

Caserío del Mirador – Xaló (Spain)

This beautiful and charming boutique hotel is nothing like the typical family hotel or resort. Here the kids will be running around the beautiful grounds and have so much fun at the pool, sand pit, trampoline and the various little playgrounds, not to mention feeding the animals. It’s a place where families come back year after year and where wonderful family memories are made.

Nearest international airport: Alicante (1h drive) or Valencia (1h30 drive).

Verdura Resort – Sicily (Italy)

This Rocco Forte oceanfront resort redefines what a luxury family vacation means. First of all, it lives up to its reputation as Italy’s number one golf resort with 45 holes designed by golf architect Kyle Phillips. On top of that, the Rocco Forte kids programme (ages 0-16) ensures that the littles ones will be pampered too.

Zafiro Palace Alcudia – Mallorca (Spain)

Located right next to one of Mallorca’s best beaches, this hotel is great for families who seek a beach/pool combo kinda holiday. There are several pools at the property and 3 different kids clubs. In the evening the kids also get entertained at the shows that take place every day.

Château St Pierre de Serjac – Languedoc (France)

This 19th century castle and working winery, surrounded by vineyards, offers everything you need for a relaxing and upscale family holiday. The pool, tennis court, bike rental as well as the kids club (catered to ages 4-12) makes it a great place to unwind for families with slightly older kids.
